Why Are Teens Burdened With Acne
Acne, pimple or zits are annoying and embarassing to teenagers. Hormones in teens make acne a problem that many teens have to face. Acne appears on the face, neck, back and shoulders because you have the most oil glands in the body there. There are different types of pimple such as white heads black heads, papules small raised bumps, pustles red tender bumps, nodules and cysts. Three factors contribute to acne are oil production, dead skin, and bacteria.
Some teen acne can be treated by over the counter lotions and creams. Often these products contain benzyol peroxide, sulfer, and other active drying ingredients. These products often are good for mild acne because they dry the skin. For more serious cases teens should visit a dermatolgist who will evaluate your case. They may prescribe prescription drugs or lotions that are stronger. Some of the prescription creams have vitamin A and antibiotics in them to fight infections. Creams often cause burning and drying as side effects. Oral antibiotics or pills may be prescribed by the doctor for moderate to severe acne. These medications are often taken a few months until the acne improves.
Laser and light therapy are two other treatments available for teens. Laser treatments reaches deeper levels of the skin. Often it stops the oil glands from producing excess oil. These treatments kill bacteria that causes acne too. These are often treatments used when teens cannot tolerate acne medications.
There are special treatment for teen acne scars. Teens can try soft tissue fillers where collegen or fat is injected into the skin. This fills out the skin and hides scars. Dermabrasion removes the top layer of skin with a rotating wire brush. The skin then heals properly. Another popular treatment is laser resurfacing a treatment that removes the outer layer of skin so that it heals properly.
