Here are a few of the acne treatments we keep hearing about that are total bunk – take our word for it!
Stop Eating Fried Food: The biggest wives tale that comes with acne is that eating greasy or fried food gives it to you worse. If you think you get pimples from eating anything you’re all wrong – but drinking a lot of water WILL help.
Wash Your Face: ALL THE TIME. This one’s false, too. The more you wash your face the more your skin tries to produce oil to replace what it has lost – that’s a surefire way to make your acne even worse than it was before.
Don’t Go in the Sun: This one is so not true! The sun’s rays can actually give you a bit of an acne zap if you soak them in moderation – about 10 minutes of intense sun exposure can dry out your skin and actually cause your acne to recede.

The myth circulating is that the sun can actually cure acne. While it is true that some sun exposure can reduce the appearance of acne, too much sun exposure makes acne worse. While in the sun, the skin tans and this skin darkening makes the redness and blemishes less noticeable. In reality, any exposure to the sun whether it is a tan or a burn irritates the skin and any type of skin irritation will make acne worse, never better. Direct sunlight stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. This results in more blemishes because sweat combines with the excessive sebum attracting more dirt.

Tanning may temporarily reduce the appearance of blemishes, but too much exposure will only exacerbate the condition. To protect your skin, don’t go out when the sun is at its peak. Avoid direct sunlight on acne prone areas such as the face or back. Use a non-comedogenic sun block that contains at least a 15 sun protection factor (SPF) or higher. Check ingredients on the sunscreen label to ensure you are using a product that is oil based free. Wear a wide brimmed hat or umbrella to shield your face or body from the sun.

Resist the urge to pop your pimples! Even though our first instinct is to pop pimples for short term temporary relief, the better solution is to wait it out. To put it simply, popping pimples is an inferior solution with adverse short-term and long term effects. In contrast, waiting the pimples out is a patience oriented solution with the long-term benefits of further pimple and blemish prevention.

Popping pimples can cause bacteria to go deeper in the skin in addition to causing scars and skin blemishes. In addition, the pimples may last longer or spread due to the infected material being spread by your fingers and the pus. In comparison, if we let the body deal with the pimples naturally, the pus, bacteria, and inflammation will be removed naturally by the body’s defensive mechanisms. So not only will the pimple be removed in a faster time frame, but further infection of the body will be prevented.

So next time a pimple forms on your face, steel yourself and remind what is healthier in the long run. A person who does not pop his pimples will have much better facial complexion in his later years than someone who does pop their pimples. Although it can be satisfying way to deal with your pimples, it is healthier for the skin complexion and prevention of further pimples to wait it out.Related Article : What is on my lip?

There are a lot of people with oily skin who think that they should wash their face with soap because their skin will feel tighter and drier. Although it is true that your facial skin will feel drier after you washed your face with soap, the result is only temporary. In addition, it can lead to more damage in the long run. You should know that when you use soap to wash your sensitive facial skin, it will only strip away the oil from your skin. When the oil is removed from your skin, your facial skin will only produce more oils to compensate for the loss. As a result, it can lead to more pimple breakouts and other skin problems. If you have dry skin, when you use soap to wash your face, signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles will show earlier on your face. Instead of using soap to remove the dirt and other impurities that have accumulated on your skin, you should use a gentle facial wash that is meant for your skin type. If you have a skin type that is prone to have acne breakouts, then you should use a facial cleanser that has Salicylic acid.Take a look here to learn more: Clinique 3 Step.
